Course Description

Gain the entrepreneurial edge by combining design and business in the double degree to learn contemporary design thinking and production skills while developing the business knowledge to support your creative endeavours or those of others. There is an increasing global demand for designers who have a strong business knowledge and the blended skill-set to respond to the complexity of contemporary global society, be inclusive and ethical and contribute sustainably. This double degree course will give you the skills to apply design principles in business contexts, or to assist with the business development aspects of design. You will develop specialist skills in Communication, Industrial, Spatial or Collaborative Design and add a broad understanding of business, enhanced by expertise in a particular business area. Choose from 10 different business majors such as management, marketing or accounting. Start of expanded content This course leads to two separate degrees. Depending upon your specialisation, you will be awarded one of: * Bachelor of Communication Design, * Bachelor of Industrial Design, * Bachelor of Spatial Design, or * Bachelor of Collaborative Design, and * Bachelor of Business. You will gain all the benefits of each degree course and be fully equipped to pursue a career in either field separately or in combination. In the design part of your studies you'll learn in a studio setting from Monash academics, practising designers and top researchers as you learn to how to use design as a problem-solving tool in hands-on, practical studios. In the business part of your studies, you'll gain a broad understanding of business and with 10 different business majors to choose from you'll be able to explore your interest. There is no design folio or interview entrance requirement for this course. It's open to anyone who is curious and passionate to make a difference and you will learn the technical capabilities and strategic skills to be a successful designer. ** Professional recognition All our design degrees are recognised by the Design Institute of Australia (DIA).

Entry Requirements

Academic Requirements 1. Equivalent Australian Year 12 with required score. 2. All applicants must satisfy the following prerequisites or their equivalents. 3. Australian VCE subjects - English- Units 3 & 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in English other than EAL. Maths- Units 3 & 4: a study score of at least 22 in Mathematical Methods (any) or Specialist Mathematics, or a score of at least 25 in Further Mathematics. 4. IB subjects- English- At least 4 in English SL or 3 in English HL or 5 in English B SL or 4 in English B HL Maths - At least 4 in Mathematics SL or 3 in Mathematics HL or 3 in Further Mathematics HL or 4 in Math Studies SL. 5.VET Certificate IV, diploma or advanced diploma graduates: To be considered, applicants will normally require at least a 75% to 80% average. Preference will be given to students whose prior studies are related to the course in which they are seeking admission. Programs that involve competency-based assessment without grades or marks will not meet the admission requirements. 6. Higher Education - University: Completion of two single units (equivalent to 12 Monash credit points) satisfy minimum entry requirements, but more units may be useful for selection, especially in areas of study related to the course in which admission is being sought. Applicants should have at least a 60% average in their studies. Studies must have been completed within five years of intended commencement. ***Entire academic record This course uses the entire academic record as part of its selection considerations. ***All applicants must satisfy the equivalence of the VCE subject prerequisites.
