Monash University has achieved a top 100 global ranking in nine subjects out of 11 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World Subject Rankings 2021.
Monash climbed more than 25 places in five of the ranked subjects, led by very strong gains in education (up 50 places to 30 in the world), and Business and Economics (up 42 places to equal 67).
In the subject of Clinical and Health, Monash increased 11 places to rank 31 in the world.
Monash also recorded strong results in:
- Arts and Humanities, up 29 to 74
- Life Sciences, up 1 to equal 54
- Physical Sciences, up 11 to 84
- Social Sciences, up 33 to 99
- Computer Sciences, up from band 201-250 to 151-175
Also ranked in the top 100 are Engineering, equal 71, and Law, 64.
Altogether, 1512 universities participated in the rankings, qualifying in at least one subject.
Monash University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC said she was delighted Monash had performed strongly across each of the subject categories.
“To achieve a top-100 placing in nine of the 11 subject areas is a remarkable result for Monash, and shows our ongoing commitment to education and research excellence across a breadth of disciplines,” Professor Gardner said.
“The dedicated work of our researchers and academics contributes to building greater understanding of global challenges as we strive to pioneer innovative new solutions that establish Monash as one of the world’s great changemakers of the future.”
The results come after Monash ranked equal 64th in the THE World University Rankings 2021 in September, and 55th in the QS World University Rankings 2021 in June.
The subject rankings are compiled in the categories of Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Clinical and Health, Computer science, Education, Engineering, Law, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Psychology, and Social Sciences. Universities are assessed on 13 key performance indicators across five broad categories - teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.
