Important information about Semester 1, 2021
Institution News
With the end of Semester 2, 2020 drawing near, UQ has made a number of decisions and plans to support international students commencing and continuing their study in Semester 1, 2021.
Information for international students NOT in Australia
Australia’s international borders are currently closed to foreign nationals* (unless they have an exemption) and we do not know when they will open. In Semester 1, 2021, the majority of our courses will therefore be available to study online in ‘External’ mode.
Visit UQ's Programs and Courses webpage to review which courses are available in ‘External’ mode in Semester 1, 2021. To read more about studying at UQ in Semester 1, 2021 please visit our Preparing for Semester 1 webpage.
* NOTE: Information in relation to the closure of Australia’s international borders is current as at 7th October 2020. Please review theAustralian Government website for the most recent advice.
12.5% UQ COVID-19 Offshore Online Study Tuition Fee Rebate
If international students are prevented from travelling to Australia due to the Australian Government border controls and will be studying with us online from their home country, they may be eligible for a UQ COVID-19 Offshore Online Study Tuition Fee Rebate.
Students will need to be a full-fee paying international student undertaking an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree. If eligible, the rebate will provide a 12.5% reduction of their tuition fees based on their actual course enrolments in Semester 1, 2021. Please review the UQ Students and parents COVID-19 advice webpage for further information on the rebate.
NOTE: Whilst eligible students will receive this rebate on their fees, there will be no change to the commission payable to agents.
Advice for international students currently in Australia
We understand that at this time of year students may be considering returning home to see families and friends over the Australian summer holidays. However, with Australia’s international borders closed to foreign nationals and no date when they will reopen, it is unlikely that students will be able to return to Australia to commence study in Semester 1, 2021 if they return home. As this could impact future study plans, we strongly recommend that students stay in Australia over the summer holidays.
Summer in Queensland Program
Students who have accepted their offer and are in Queensland, are encouraged to sign up for the Summer in Queensland Program. It will be a summer they will never forget, with a range of free events, discounted accommodation and subsidised travel tours to choose from.
Students will have the opportunity to travel within Queensland and explore famous destinations with their UQ peers or stay close to Brisbane to experience life with our locals, learn new skills, or prepare for their career.
Visit the Summerin Queensland website for more information about the program and how to register.
Studying at UQ in Semester 1, 2021
Students residing in Queensland for Semester 1, 2021 will be able to study on-campus. Therefore, we advise they select courses with an ‘Internal’ or ‘Flexible’ delivery mode (where available). To read more about the important considerations for choosing a course delivery mode, please visit our Preparing for Semester 1 webpage.
